We are looking for a very strong resident netball coach to go into a school and coach the top teams. All candidates must be at least a level 2 and also played/coached to a high standard. Basically, I am looking for someone who is at the very sharp end of the game. Candidates offering other sports will be preferred but a very high standard of netball is essential.

All candidates can expect the following package: free accommodation, no bills, free food/drink and a monthly salary. Candidates must be prepared to live within the school and not only coach netball but also help out in other sports as well as assisting off the sports field too, i.e. house duties etc. Monthly salary will also depend on the candidate but as a rough guide - £1,000 per month.

Any interested candidates should send their CV to daniel@independentcoacheducation.co.uk I will contact any candidates who I think are strong enough to be put forward for interview. Any candidates going for interview should expect a formal interview along with a coaching assessment in netball. Interviews will be held asap.

The length of contract will depend on the candidate, but anything from 2 terms, 3 terms, full academic year, possibly even longer.

Rule Clarification - Acrylic Nails

As you know at times England Netball are approached to answer rules questions posed by either yourselves or England Netball members.  More often than not the response given by England Netball will have been discussed via the current EN Rules Board of Cheryl Danson, Bill Alexander and myself - if further clarification is required England Netball would then contact IFNA for a response

In an effort to ensure that information is disseminated wider than just the person asking the question I have decided that until information is inputted on to the Officiating website (a project for the future) then I will be making every effort to not only respond to the individual but also to you as regional umpiring personnel.

It would then be very much appreciated if you could disseminate the information through to yoru counties and leagues.  Some questions will also appear from time to time in the Netball magazine.

So where and when do we start - well right now with the following question on Acrylic nails

Question: Please can you advise what action can be taken against players with acrylic nails. We are getting more and more incidents of players turning up to play who have acrylic nails.

Answer: Rule 1.4.5 clearly states that Fingernails, shall be short and smooth. If their fingernails conform to this rule then they can participate, whether their nails are square or round.

Please beware that should a player be wearing Acrylic nails which do not conform to the above, then they should not participate according to the rule. If the players Acrylic nails do conform to the rule, and they subsequently suffer damage to their nail(s) then, they participate at their own risk and they would not covered by any England Netball Insurance.

Rule Clarification - Wearing of Sunglasses

Please find another directive which has been agreed by the EN Rules board in relation to the wearing of Sunglasses whilst participating in England Netball activities

Sunglasses should not normally be worn when participating in Netball activities. However, sunglasses may be worn for genuine medical reasons when participating in recognised and authorised EN netball activities. If sunglasses are required for genuine medical reasons, then an appropriate medical certificate must be supplied to England Netball (or the appropriate league, county or region)

If a player / coach / official has to wear glasses for medical reasons then she / he is fully insured from an EN point of view. But , if the glasses become damaged due to a netball accident then these are not insured.

This guidance applies to Netball Activities within England Netball only.

England Netball clarifies Injury Time Out Rule

Following a recent incident at a junior game where a player suffered a

breathing attack and was unable to call time and the game did not stop.  I have to issue the following advice which is in consultation from Sheelagh Redpath.

"The rule clearly states that the call for time is from any on court

player and does not have to be the actual injured person.  Teams (at

whatever age and level) must be taught that if one of their players is

injured that anyone may call time to the umpire Normally play would

not be stopped if the injury was not in the half where play was

HOWEVER in incidences such as breathing etc commonsense would apply and the other umpire would call for time

If the Bench calls time the umpire should show some commonsense and if necessary call for time If this was to happen I would hope that any umpire assessor would not penalise the umpire for taking time which has not been directly as the rules have stated

NO umpire will be penalised for using their commonsense."
