Friday night, Cheshire’s academy teams played against U14, U15, U17 and mixed teams over a couple of hours before sharing a fabulous buffet (and cake) at the Ellesmere Port Sports Village. Cheshire players then hosted the Australians providing overnight accommodation both Friday and Saturday nights. Saturday morning saw a few aching players meet at Kingsway Sport Centre in Widnes for a morning of more match play which also included the U15 development squad from Manchester Thunder. In the afternoon the Australians visited Liverpool – lunch on the docks, Beatles museum and look around the arena where the Netball World Cup 2019 is to be held.
Excellent weekend with mentoring for the umpires from Chris McCall, many of Cheshire’s coaches had the opportunity to see the athletes in action and a clean sweep which is always nice. Many thanks to Cheshire’s Phil Owen for organising things at our end IOM Tour Report
Cheshire Host Traveling Australian Netball TeamsThe weekend of 13-15th January, Cheshire Netball hosted a weekend of netball and activities with Wanderers netball from Australia. The visitors came with an U14, U16 and U18 team plus coaching staff and a couple of parents.
The weekend started at Ellesmere Port Sports Village, where we had 2 hours of netball, with county satellite / academy and U19 squads providing the opposition, followed by a buffet for all, with lots of netball talk over the chopped carrots and cake. The player then went off with county players, who all opened their homes to the visitors. The following morning, we gathered at the Velodrome in Manchester, home of British cycling, with the coaches been a little more excited about their surroundings than the players. Once again U14, U16 and U19 teams provided the opposition along with the U16 development POD; we exchanged gifts with Thunder bags, pens and keyrings (keeping is small and light due to baggage limits). Cheshire’s host / organiser, Phil, arranged for the team to then go to Bolton Wanderers to watch a football game. Not sure the girls understood what was going on the field although they enjoyed the half time welcome on the large score board and joining in the local chants of “Wanderers! Wanderers!” A second evening with our generous parents / player hosts and the travelling adults had a get together at Phil’s home. A final farewell at 9am Sunday morning, with thoughts of Cheshire going to Australia for the return journey – we wish! The visitors are running a blog – to see more click on http://wanderersaustralia.com.au/2017-jnr-netball-tour-2-blog/ Data Protection PolicyClick the link below to download the Data Protection Policy.
